Siddhartha Gutama, the first and most prominent of the Buddhas, obtained enlightenment when he was dissatisfied with the world he knew and sought answers. Sitting under a Bodhi tree, he perservered temptations and onslaughts by his adversary (Mara, the god of death) until he came up with the answers to what he perceived to be the suffering of this life.
