Just come back from France and unexpectedly stayed close to Tiffauges, one of Gilles De Rais main chateaux. the Vendee Council have now made this into a proper tourist attraction with various re-enactments and demonstrations of medieval weaponry. They have a great 15 minute 3D film showing the Chateaux / Castle in its former glory - curiously however a young boy leads you through the ruins?! In fact I thought several times what Gilles would have thought about the number of children there, enjoying Tiffauges in 2009 and how now they want to be there instead of being kidnapped and tortured in the most despicable ways. In fact in a book I picked up there, an old photograph shows a postcard from a few decades ago, black and white shot of the ruined chapel with curiously placed groups of children starring woefully at the camera. Some in groups some standing alone on the top of the walls - all rather morbid and slightly disturbing. Gilles De Rais, the worlds first serial killer? Pictures of Tiffauge to come.
