I'm sure I'm not the only one here who has noticed subtle differences in the originally released 'Cruelty' album, and the 2 disc special edition/marbled cross version. I feel the originally released version is slightly weaker. On the 2-disc version, I have noticed slight differences in songs like 'Cruelty Bought Thee Orchids', 'Desire In Violent Overture" and 'Bathory Aria'. These differences actually add more to the songs.
If you have also noticed these changes, then which do you prefer?
Also, I can't help but prefer some of their demo's/re-mixes to the finished version, such as the demo's for 'Born In a Burial Gown', 'The Death Of Love', 'Lustmord And Wargasm (The Re-licking....)', Amor E Morte'.
Anyone else?

Remember that most of us have never heard the 2-disc edition! Me being one of those people, I wasn't aware that there was any difference between the two versions, so thanks for letting me know --
As for the demos/remixes, I've never wholly liked one better than the original, although often some parts of the demos/remixes have pros over the original, and vice versa (notably "Thirteen Autumns (Red October mix)" and the "Honey and Sulphur" demo).
If I get ever get some decent equipment, one day I'll engineer the "perfect" versions of certain songs (combining the best aspects of the originals and re-recordings/remixes/demos to create the musical equivalent of the bee's knees!)
"Funeral In Carpathia", "Thirteen Autumns" and "Honey And Sulphur" will be especially epic!
Raped[of]Faith said:Im exactly the opposite, I've never heard the normal edition. I bought the 2-disc edition first then bought the 4-CD boxset which contains the original (but i'm keeping the box set sealed). I also like the original songs better than the remixes/demos usually

Well, basically Raped[of]Faith ...... yes. Yes, I am :)
By superimposing just a few bits from the "Be Quick Or Be Dead" version into it, I could form the perfect "Funeral In Carpathia"!

haha
I only own the 2 disc special edition, sans the fancy Celtic cross packaging- I think the track listing is almost the same save for the fact that the Celtic cross version is missing Portrait of the Dead Countess.
Anyway, now I want to hear the original release to see exactly what the subtle differences are! I daresay the special edition will remain my preferred version.
I, like Sean's Inferno, have the 'simple' edition, yet I do know the special edition's songs. I have never ever heard a difference between the mentioned songs on the original and the extended version of the album. The special edition lacks the first Lustmord and Wargasm and Portrait of the dead Countess, whilst the normal one lacks all the latter songs (Black Metal, Hallowed by thy Name, Sodomy & Lust and Twisting Further Nails) and the second Lustmord and Wargasm. This is, as said, the first time that I have heard of a difference in the songs that are on both versions, and I have always found them to sound exactly the same. Could you point out what kind of differences these are?

Which special edition are you talking about? Both those songs appear on the 2-disc album (along with 'Black Metal', 'Sodomy And Lust', 'The Re-Licking Of Cadaverous Wounds' and 'Hallowed Be Thy Name'), but not on the cross version.
