Let me guess ... the Rob Zombie remake?
yea i would probably say hellraiser aswell! the first two tho.. anythin after that is'nt the may west!!:P
I've always liked The Shining.

And I was totally scared of The Birds when I watched it at the age of 12 or so. I loved It at the age of 10. Nowadays I don't seem to like any horror movies anymore, seen only crappy ones even tho Ringu (original Ring) is great and there are some other Japanese plus Korean ones that are ok.
I agree 105% that the more subtle horror films are the more effective ones in a lot of cases. Showing buckets of blood and gore and so forth leaves nothing to the imagination and after a while just seems pointless. "Psychological" horror is infinitely creepier, as it's just so much more haunting and hugely effective when done right. Especially at times when you don't get to see certain things, and it's left up to your imagination.

Speaking of Evil Dead, I love "Evil Dead II". That said, I tend to watch it as a comedy, as it's essentially a horror spoof, hardly a straight-up horror.

Gore and blood does have its place though. Horror films like "Suspiria" and "Evil Dead" pull it off in excess, and do so very well.
And there are films (which aren't strictly horror) such as "Cannibal Holocaust" and the "August Underground" series, which are basically just vehicles to show off gore effects, but it still works for what the film itself is. They're not trying to be scary - shocking, maybe, but not scary.
I fail to find an awful teenage actress's tits covered in blood for a couple of hours particularly scary.

I like 'Halloween' -> the original and Rob Zombies version.
Also like:
The Hills Have Eyes
Saw (The first was the best by far)
The Devils Rejects
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (I like the original and the remake, probably like the remake a little more though)
The Amittyville Horror (The remake is the best)
The Shining
The Exorcist
The Omen (amazing movie, again, I like the original and the remake)
Hmmm...Probably the Saw series. It's really difficult to pick a favorite.
Don't even try mate lol

Well mine is Dario Argento's Suspiria, no suprise to Sean I guess since we argued about Argento ages ago lol.

Others I rate are....

Last house on the left "original" although I actually did enjoy the remake
Stigmata, not sure if it would technically be classed as all out horror but still, loved it
Mario Bava's Blood and Black Lace, utter classic
Clive Barkers Lord of Illusions, really wish we could have seen more of Harry D'Amours adventures through Barkers eyes.

havent seen a lot but it is probably cradle of fear
Night of The Living Dead! The original. It's not scary cuz the zombies, Its the SUSPENSE! :D
The original Ring movie was good. Most movies I don't find scary any more though. If you were to consider Sweeney Todd a slasher, as some idiots I know do, then I would have to say that is the best one to date as that is my favorite movie
Sweeny Todd isn't a horror film its a musical
