Yes, I also liked "heavier" music, but still in a positive direction.

Why not natural? and I don't know, it just sounded so awesome and heavy that it gave me goosbumps. and I already liked heavy music at the time, but not something close to CoF.

I found the story awful and when I read it, I laid the album aside for a week, before I picked it up again and started listening.

Please don't start another topic.  PLEASE.

This topic is, which album we liked first, but it doesn´t explain, why we chose this album.

No, this is that topic.

When you have a problem with me starting topics, you don´t need to join them. And especially you should be thankful for topics.

Was it or would it be?

I'd heard a lot about them via seeing people on forums constantly arguing about whether they were the greatest band on earth or the worst thing to happen to music ever and thus became curious and checked "Mannequin" out.  Initially, my reaction was "what the fuck is this?" - especially since up to that point, I had no experience with extreme metal and was mostly a punk rock fan (the melodic stuff like NOFX, Bad Religion, Rancid, AFI - yes, they were indeed a punk band at one point!).  However, I'd never heard anything quite like it, so I kept going back and eventually heard "Her Ghost in the Fog" and "Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids", which interested me enough to buy an album - "Damnation and a Day".  I liked it, of course.  Then I got "Cruelty and the Beast" which I liked a lot more and was sold right after that.  Afterwards, I started getting into more extreme metal bands, like Dimmu (the OTHER sell-out extreme metal band :P), Nile, Cannibal Corpse, etc. and it spiralled from there and now I'm totally into death/black/thrash blah blah blah no one gives a shit tl;dr

I guess, which album was our first, just depends on the time, we became fans. Would be interesting, what processes in your lives made you interested and brought you in contact with Cradle, because as they are not commercial and it is not at all so easy to find them, I think, everybody has his very own special story, but I think, I´ll start an extra topic for that...

At the time (1998) I was 11 years old, listening to The Offspring, Marilyn Manson, Metallica, Korn, Silverchair etc, but my best friend at that time had an older sister who was into more heavy stuff. Her boyfriend told us to check out a band called Cradle of Filth who had just released an album called Cruelty and the Beast. I went to the record store (yeah it was that time when you would actualy have to go to a store, wait an hour for a free cdplayer to have a chance to listen to the album) and bought the album. Atr first I thought the woman in the booklet did the high vocals, lol. After that I got FtCtE when it was released. A year later I went for Midian but disliked it (the keys especially), so I got Dusk instead. Since that time I've bought every album etc and grown to like Midian a lot.

@ Totally: Yes, I also started with Punk in my teenage until early grown-up time. My first metal bands were Metallica and Rammstein. Then I had a musical break, where I only listened to commercial radio and then later on by coincidence I fell into Cradle. I´m not sure, if I will go further in blacker metal. I hope not, because that could be a sign that my life turns even worse...

:( Wouldn´t it?

@ Frank: Yes, C&B is a very female album and I also love Dani´s high voice in it and also his looks at that time. On the other hand on Principle he had a very deep voice, that also fits very well, especially at the song Summer Dying Fast...

the first song hooked me up was from the cradle to enslave back in 1999 then I started to went backward to bought dvsk...and her embrace. My fave album are VEmpire, dvsk...and her embrace, cruelty and the beast. The principle isn't my fave and Midian has many great songs but still not my fave. I listen some from Damnation and a day, Nymphetamine & Thornography era. The latest I don't listen yet :D

"Dusk...And Her Embrace".  I only like a couple other COF CD's.  I hate the newer material.
