Hello, I'm new here on Cradle of Filth so please do not mock me okay? I've heard the song 'The Death of Love' (My absolute favourate by the way). I was wondering. What is it Dani shouts in between several verses. For example. "Prophecies and glory forge a massive disdain...(Unknown word)...For lying passive in the shadow while the enemy reigns". What is that word? And what does it mean?

Thank you for your time.

That’s interesting and good to know. Thanks for sharing, will update my lyrics right away!

Hi, I'm new to the forum also.  I heard the word loud and clear.  It isn't "la pucelle" as was suggested.  The growl is prophesy, as in:

Prophecies and glory forge a massive disdain - PROPHESY

Grammatically this makes sense, and two interpretations seem readily apparent:

* prophecies create disdain, so therefore let's prophesy.

* it could be a call-and-response like the Christian TESTIFY BROTHER, this is saying PROPHESY BROTHER.

Compared to la pucelle meaning virgin, I can't see anything in the song that relates to virginity (unless the king of heaven is referring to Jesus' virgin birth, which seems inconsistent).

That's just my thoughts :)

Joan of Arc was considered to be The Virgin of Orleans, so it definitely makes sense. By the way, does anyone know what choir sings in "Balsamic and Anathema"? I know the first line is "Tomorrow we'll follow a path of God", but I don't have a slightest idea what's in the second.

Thanks very much Ravio! Always wondered what that word was.

I would be interested to know that part is as well Faustus. Agreed about the first line, and the second line seems to end with 'forgot'.

Fair enough, I listened through it again and took note of the repeat of the same growl twice more through the song, and I have to agree that it was la pucelle.  I swear though, just hearing it in that first context without listening through the whole song, it sounded like Prophesy and I would have said on oath that this is what it was.

I have a new understanding of the song now ;)
