The making of The Principle of Evil Made Flesh story in Decibel

The new issue of Decibel Magazine has honored Cradle of Filth landmark The Principle of Evil Made Flesh debut album as the latest inductee into its exclusive “Hall of Fame” series. The feature is a seven-page, 5500-word, in-depth look at the album, providing an intimate, insider’s view of one of the most important records in the metal canon. The story includes, rare never-before-seen Cradle images and new interviews with ALL SIX Cradle members who participated in the making of The Principle of Evil Made Flesh and well as bonus interviews with former Anathema/The Blood Divine frontman Darren White and former Cacophonous Records label head Frater Nihil. Figured you'd all (or most of you) would be interested.

I only have the white version of the first shirt. Paul R. is supposed to visit me next week so I can ask him about quantities if he does.

 

If you bought the shirts at the show you're guaranteed to have the real thing, the fakes are noticeable by the sleeve designs, the sigils are blurred compared to the original. There was a bunch of TBGR shirts stolen at one of the gigs (I think at The Flying Picket with Morbid Symphony), which really annoyed me, so if anyone bought one outside of the gigs it was most probably nicked.

 

I think the Decibel article was constrained by space, they didn't print everything I told them, and I imagine the others comments were edited too. There's a couple of erroneous statements in the band's interviews, but nothing that isn't understandable given the passage of time.

Do you know what differs on the sleeves from the original 'The Black Goddess Rises' shirts to the fakes you mention?

The ones I own, both Black Goddess and Fuck Your God, was bought on the Liverpool Royal Court show in 1993 but it's always good to know what to look for.

 

Back to the topic I just finished reading the Decibel article, great one. Wish it would have been a little bit longer but a really nice read. I have experienced similar magic once in my life, brings back a lot of memories.

I know what you mean. This one, for instance. But it seems that there is indeed a second version of the "Fuck your God" longsleeve.


@Frater Nihil: Do you remember what the tag of the original "Black Goddess Rises" read, or the company that printed them?

I think you got this wrong. The 'Fuck Your God' longsleeve has different colors on the two sleeves, one sleeve red and one white. That's the only version there is that I am aware of. If you got any pictures of the shirt in two version splease do post but I don't think it exist.

They were on screenstars, but I don't remember the name of the printing company. They were quite expensive to make, which is one of the reasons I was pissed off some were nicked, as I'd paid for them.

As for the tags I can confirm that original TBGR and FYG are tagged with ScreenStar.

Unfortunately the kid doing the merch (who was the son of the driver) left the bag of shirts next to the door and someone walked out with them when his back was turned (I had my suspicions at the time as to who it was).

The shirt lists two versions and a friend of GRU's has one of the non-red "Fuck Your God"s.

So how about this one? Is this one real? It doesn't have the Cacophonous print above the TPOEMF text on the sleeves.

The Supreme Vampyric Evil shirt in previous post is a bootleg, as the SVE phrase was used on the Cacophonous shirt, and the picture of Paul was to be used on a 'Nocturnal Supremacy' shirt.
