The First Official Song From "Midnight In The Labyrinth" Has Been Released...
It is "A Gothic Romance". After a first listen, this is MUCH better than the version of "Summer Dying Fast" we got on "Evermore Darkly"! I like everything about this, EXCEPT that annoying choir in the background, the same choir that was in "Summer Dying Fast". They're annoying, it sounds cheesy and lame, and it just takes away from the dark and gothic feeling. But, besides that, I love the orchestration and I love the sound effects. It's nice to hear Dani sing some of the parts of the song too! As it must have been a while since he's sung "A Gothic Romance"!
A certain person will also be in this song that all of you shall recognize...
Hopefully this video doesn't get taken down, as that would be a shame. So, quickly make MP3's as quickly as you can!

Really hoping for a return to this sort of goth creepiness on their new 'band' album. I love the extremity of the last 2 albums but my fav sound was always the goth creepiness.

It looks like bad amateur cover art for some horror book, too much computer and Photoshop for me. But maybe it will be a similar situation to DDVA - awful front art, good art inside booklet.

The CoF logo overlaps the church and is too low. Looks just slapped on without any thought or care. OK ... just my penchant for getting things right, maybe, but these little details all add up to something being either good or just "run-of-the-mill" ...
Like DDVA it is a 2CD DigiBook I think ... so I hope you are right and the booklet is up to par ... at least!

I wondered why all that was changed! So it was Peaceville's decision as I think I assumed, saying, "It's probably out of their hands" somewhere on here during some discussion about delays and why this wasn't on that etc etc ... good to know!

Paul said in some interview that he would like to release MitL along with dvd, as it was originally planned to, but he doubted that label would agree for these terms. And I guess that delay was also connected with another Peaceville's release from last year - My Dying Bride's "Evinta" - 'cause I don't think they wanted to release similar albums in the same time.

If I were Cradle, I'd ask fans to submit artwork for their albums - they'd most likely do it for free.
Of course, 99.999% of it would be absolutely bollocks.

The artwork looks very similar to past albums, if it is bad then the DahE CatB etc. are bad too and abused in photoshop use.

BETO - nah, DaHE and CatB were using normal photos as a cover art and MitL is just a crappy computer picture done in 5 minutes in PhotoShop. I hoped they'd use Nigel Wingrove for old times' sake, but I'm not sure if he's even into doing such things anymore.

I am not to fond of the video-game look it has to it, almost like Godspeed. It would be better if that light-blue light wasn't shining through the window, it kind of makes it look bad. Perhaps a different color?

My sole complaint, too, as stated in the other thread. If the overall image were a bit paler and they removed or replaced those garish lights…

I thought the song was pretty good, but I agree on the synth-sound of the orchestra. I would be really thrilled to hear this all done by the Bulgarian orchestra that did Damnation ;)
Anyway, as a huge fan of filmscores, I can definitely see why they link this to the likes of Elfman, Young and Goldsmith. Hell, the fast bit even reminds me of Bernard Hermann's score to Psycho with the high violins.
Nah, this album will make a neat atmospheric piece despite its flaws :)
