Hello everyone, just joined this site just a few minutes ago, and I'm new to the band. I'd just like to know what the lyrics mainly talk about, and if it's worth getting into them as a band, thanks to any replies.

Cradle of Filth's music is like epic poetry put to life, themed in the darker side of life not so much in a satanic way though,
Get ready to get your head blown off. Cradle is the most thematic black metal youll ever hear
What would be the best to start off with?
The lyrics are mainly about mythical creatures and historical persons connected with Devil. And, that´s truth, they aren´t satanic or devil worshipping at all. I recommend to start with "Dusk and her embrace", than "Midian" and than the new album "Godspeed on devil´s thunder".
Of course it's worth getting into them as a band!

Try to read the lyrics while listening to the music... It's better than seeing a movie. And the music is full of feelings and emotions.

To start...? Her Ghost In The Fog, Malice Through the Looking Glass, Saffron's Curse.......
The lyrics are not regular lyrics from any other band. Mostly, with Cradle, it's poetry. They mainly talk about dark subjects, vampires, women, gothic stuff.

It's worth getting into them as a band, since they have a lot of depth. I've been listening to them for 4 years now, and I still keep discovering new levels of them as a band.

They put so much work in every album. It's not just about the music, it's also about the album cover, and the artwork shown in the booklet. They pick artist who will help illustrate the atmosphere of the album the best. And what do you get? You get a cool package filled with new songs, lyrics, pictures, etc., which you will probably keep analyzing until you feel you understood the album.
Depends really what your taste is, Midian, Vempire, Dusk and her Embrace, Damnation and a day are great albums. The new album Godspeed on the Devils thunder is really good also, if you like it more melodic and commercial try Nymphetemine.

there is a lot of sexual content and also underworldy stuff like deamons an vampires but sometimes i cant understand what dani is saying but i enjoy the sound experiance anyway so if u like the music carry on also.the first album you should listen to is midian it probably my fav try tracks 1 and 2 together (intro cthulu dawn) the 6 (amore morte') ... enjoy! :) p.s one way or another keep rocking
I've been a fan for many years, and what gotten me into them was the debut of Cruelty and the Beast.
It really depends what type of person you are and what you enjoy because each album Cradle creates has their own unique and different aspect. Though, the main theme with all the albums is that they tell a story. So an album must be listened to from start to finish to get the full flavour that Cradle gives. I don't see them as a "band" persay, but the group as their own novelist surprising me with their tales.
Wow...thanks everyone for all of the replies...I didn't think there was that many people here on the site or that I'd even receive this many replies, LOL...thanks again. :)
i can tell you one of my fave songs nemisis is about revenge its alittle far fetched but it has real emotional content for me.
lyrics..
Tonight is the night...
the empowering wind that draws breath from despise
roars neath my wings as i soar with the end in sight

Choirs egnite...
a swansong for Leda
dethknells for Troy
tragedy blooms from one act
i am nemisis

poured in my arms
when my daughters eyelids closed
i swore to slaughter those
who stole my ray of moonlight.ect. listen to it its track 3 on Nymphetamine.have fun
start with midian i'd say, and work your way in both directions. further in the past? lower production, better lyrics, my personal preference. Other direction? opposite of those things, and more "commercially accessible". Her Ghost In The Fog off of Midian marks their clear entrance onto the cmomerical scene, with a video that recieved airplay on MTV2. They slowly drifted their sound towards the mainstream since then, and now play a weird mesh of thrash and gothic metal. IMO, there is really no black metal elements left in their sound.
