Anathema is great, by far. One of my favourites.
Sheer Terror~New York Hardcore at its finest.. lead singer:the Good Rev. Paul Bearer Esquire
Try and put detailed reviews on bands, sound wise etc. Gives a better idea of what they're like except where they're from and who the singer is.
The 90's (end of the 80's) have granted me such great bands as:

OOMPH! (Germany), Paradise Lost, Anathema, My Dying Bride (England, all three).

Many know about those three from England and their influence on the Goth scene. As for OOMPH!... well, the band was founded in 1989 in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany - by 3 guys: Dero, Crap, and Flux. Yes, funny nicks. =) OOMPH! are one of three German bands, pioneers of the German Industrial-esque metal scene. Many know Rammstein, so Rammstein were also infuelnced by OOMPH! (as the Rammstein guys stated this fact in some interviews). The OOMPH! guys have always been working with NO producer (also all contancs with labels and suchlike, the guys do on their own). All you hear by OOMPH! is ONLY Dero, Crap & Flux. They have a big studio now given by their label - GUN records (which is closed now?? O_o), also each one has his own mini-studio at home... so they work almost constantly.
Dero is a vocalist, lyricist and drummer (records in studio). He is a huge fan of philosophical, religious, and psycological literature. It is obvious by listening to their songs. His poetry is like an enigma, a labyrinth, a puzzle, a room with many secret doors. Dero is an agnostic and a vegetarian. These topics are also in his lyrics (especially agnosticism). Doesn't smoke.
Crap is guitars, bass (as far as I remember), keys, sampling, producing. Crap is not a vegetarian and he smokes. Flux is guitars, sampling, mixing, contatcs with lablels and other official things. etc. He is a vegie as well as Dero... and also doesn't smoke... and drinks no alcohol. For their concerts, they have Leo and Hagen, session musicians - drums and bass.
Well, OOMPH! is a long story. All I can say about their genre is... that there is no genre. They started as an EBM band, then turned to the industial sound... then again experiments. OOMPH! is such a band that takes an ear. Especially their early stuff. The sound since "Wahrheit oder Pflicht" sounds not so tough for a listener, or maybe it's just me becaues I was already into.
Songs are both in English and German, but their "GlaubeLiebeTod" ("FaithLoveDeath", 2006) and "Monster" (2008) have no English song. Although Dero said that soon they are going to release a Best of English songs - the translated into English and a few new songs, as much as I got it right. Oh well... I must run to satiate the hole in my belly. xD

PS: They have always had troubles with lables... this is the reason why they are not so famous.
well then here are lyrics to one of their songs which they sing in a very hardcore manner, they have a guitar and a bass and drums which they used to play on stage...Sheer Terror that is..

OWE YOU NOTHING

Degradation- not again.
Explanation- not once more.
It was a first and last something I didn't need.
I won't apologize.
I won't accept your lies.
I don't give a fuck (about) how much you need.
I will have it my way, or I won't have it at all.
I would piss on your grave- and I'll laugh when you fall.
I've got my own life, I've got my own gripes,
I don't really give a fuck about your pain.
You are my enemy- you are my blasphemy
I would rather kill you than hear you complain.
I'd pour salt in your wounds, the pleasure it would bring.
Get it through your thick skull, I don't owe you a thing.
When will you fucking realize that I don't owe you a thing.
When will you just fucking understand that I don't owe you a thing.

Well, a couple of quotes from Dero Goi to emphasize their "genre" or rather style (don't remember if I have already posted them in here before).
"Standstill is a foreign word for me."
"OOMPH! is like the Universe: it's all about constant change..."
in flames: great band, the guys voice at times sounds a little like jonathan davis from time to time, but only here and there, he definitely has his own tone,, the bands got some good riffs,, they have some good lyrics too, they are kind of like killswitch in the manner that they have good melody in a heavy style, and the singer switches from screaming to meaningful singing

I like IN FLAMES. Not so much, but enough for to call them a band I listen to. I haven't heard their last album though.
Also, not for black metal fans: Megaherz (as far as I know they are friends to the OOMPH! guys.)
Well, here's the link to one of my favourite songs by them - "An deinem Grab" ("At Your Grave"). Just check it out. A beautiful and melancholic song. Also a very truthful one.
