Things to look out for:

Oslo: Burning The Bridge To Nowhere by Doug Stanhope (May 3rd)

Evinta orchestral album by My Dying Bride (May 30th)

Ghost and Deconstruction by Devin Townsend Project (June 20th)

Different Sense new single by Dir en grey (June 22nd)

As of yet untitled new album by Dir en grey (probably before August)

As of yet untitled new album by Opeth (sometime this year probably)

I loved Lotus. Hageshisha was awesome too so they seem to be on a good path. I will definitely be looking out for that.

wat.

Anyhow, what was wrong with the other thread?

Also, is this the same Doug Stanhope who does slots on Charlie Brooker's Newswipe? Had no idea he did music if so.

Well it started as Sean's thread, then a Devin Townsend thread so I thought we could start fresh before we got any further. Which is not really working there's been no suggestions yet. lol

Yes, it is.  He doesn't do music, it's a stand-up CD/DVD - the first to be released by Roadrunner's brand spanking new comedy department.  I realised that it was out of place on the list, but figured I may as well pimp it anyway since I think he's one of the few stand-ups (along with Louis C.K.) carrying the torch once held by George Carlin and Bill Hicks.  Pimping.

I was really underwhelmed by Lotus, I found it very dull indeed (although the video's nice).  I tend to play the other two tracks from the single far more often.  Hopefully this next one will set them back on track.

Wut? It was so Dir en Grey.  But maybe you're the better judge. I liked it :P

For a start, the chorus sounded far too similar to Hageshisa.  The rest of it was just very formulaic, nowhere near as interesting as a lot of their other stuff, and I found the vocals boring and uninspired.  The guitars are very nice though.

Seems 2011 is quite the year for orchestral-tinged releases so far....

MDB's orchestral album, Deconstruction,  Midnight in the Labyrinth (presumably), Septic Flesh's newest, Xerath's newest...

Also on the subject of releases to look out for this year, Meshuggah have a new album planned for autumn. It'll be interesting to see their next direction musically.

Yeah I get what you're saying. Agree for the most part except for the vocals. I found them to be kind of empowering to sing like Hageshisha.

BrokeNCYDE released a new mixtape on 4/20. Did anyone else check it out besides me?

I genuinely like my friend Al's acoustic project, so I've been listening to that a lot recently:

He's a great metal guitarist as well, believe it or not.
