"We are putting the finishing touches on an orchestral
album that we have been working on called Midnight and the
Labyrinth
. It is basically tracks from our first four records but
just done as purely orchestral. It is like soundtrack music and it is
really cool." - Dani Filth.

Dani's Blog 14-11-2010

"The forthcoming COF orchestral album (entitled Midnight In The Labyrinth) I briefly mentioned sometime before, has been re-visited, with a studio date of December the 5th set for big choirs to be added to the haunting melee. All songs will be fully orchestrated akin to a horror movie soundtrack (think Danny Elfman, John Williams, Christopher Young etc) and are comprised solely of tracks from our first four releases ( a la Principle, Vempire, Dusk and Cruelty), 'Funeral In Carpathia' being my favourite conversion thus far."
- Lord Filth-formally Count Backwerdz.

The Gauntlet 15-10-2010: Will Midnight in the Labyrinth be done with a full orchestra or just the band?

Dani:It is a mixture. Most of it is recorded. We just need to add some choir and female vocals for narrations. It will be a mixture of us and a orchestral though. We are also going to add some cello. We need more cello in there for that deep resonating. We hope to finish it all off. It won't be every bodies cup of tea. We might have an exclusive bonus track on their with guns blazing and all. This won’t be elevator music though.

Gun Shy Assassin 26-01-2011:

Paul: “It’s basically we’ve taken some songs off the first four albums and turned them into orchestral pieces,” he tells me. “No guitars, no drums, no vocals…nothing. Just pure orchestral stuff.” Two of the songs getting the orchestral treatment: Summer Dying Fast and Funeral in Carpathia.”

Ultimate Guitar 11-09-2011

Were the songs on Midnight Labyrinth chosen because they translated more readily into orchestral versions? Or were they simply the band’s favorite tracks?
Paul:Well, they were mainly chosen because we liked ‘em and a lot of fans are really into those albums. And also it just kinda made sense to try and revive that type of thing but in orchestral [style]. Because we can’t go around and do another cover utilizing a full band so we decided to do orchestral versions of all them songs. And they worked really, really well; I’m really chuffed with them.

Is really "Goetia" related to the demos? I thought it was just a random instrumental...

So, Goetia doesn't have any lyrics? Darn! I wonder if they really are turning Goetia songs into an orchestral piece! Since they said it's like 13 minutes long.

No, it's just an instrumental

Hey Shadow, can you find me on Facebook to discuss some things and not spam here? Search for "Hristo Serafimov" from Bulgaria! :)

I said it before and I am saying it again, I don't think I will be overly in to purely orchestral songs... just my taste. The vocals on the songs we heard from disc 1 are just amazing!

I do find it a bit amusing that no one seems bothered about the second disc so far, lol.

REALLY Like the piano in Thirteen Autumns!!!!

Fuck that sounds great!

Heres my filthy review of "Midnight In The Labyrinth" I hope you may agree or may have something different about it in the end, but this is how I feel listening to it from start to finish.

Cradle Of Filth - Midnight In The Labyrinth

Review: Brilliantly Perfect

To start from finish you get the first feeling of which we all witnessed the madness of Summer Dying Fast from their latest EP "Evermore Darkly", which kept you on your knees begging for more. While then Cradle throws us a mp3 of A Gothic Romance (Red Roses For The Devils Whore), which should have gave many goosebumps but this piece of work. In my own saying I would say "Midnight In The Labyrinth" works has if its own soundtrack to its own Horror Film.

Continuing on you find tracks like "Funeral In Carpathia", "The Twisted Nails Of Faith", "Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids" which give you a huge smack in the face with hearing Dani and the lovely lady Sarah Jezebel Deva! I missed her vocals soo much that it gives me chills from my whole body. "The Rape and Ruin Of Angels" has become a favorite throughout the Cradle Of Filth fanbase on this album, let their be known it seems that the Blood Thirsty band ain't done. Hopefully when the time comes, by putting out another masterpiece as this only now leaving the mysterious track "Goetia (Invoking the Unclean)" to the fans to witness the 13:06 mins of a lifetime opportunity of what could have been a great release.

The second disc I wouldn't need to really review since its just nine tracks only as Instrumentals without the narrations. But I must say getting the pre-order before anyone else in the world has brought me closer to more fans on the official forum, and I hope more greatness comes my and our way!

Get it now! And don't miss this great Compliation of old school fan favorites.

Shadow, could you let us know what Dani meant by "aural seance" when he referred to Goetia?

Yes Shadow, make a statement... ;-)

Why are there the same SHITTY choirs on all tracks?

I'm trying to keep that one a secret since its long and its very.... dark.... but thats all I'm going to say cause I ain't spoiling it.

Christine how about you make a statement ;)

Besides instruments sounding overly synthesized, that's my only complaint.  The shouts are monotonous and annoying.

I'd agree with all you've said... RAROA is definately going to be a fan favourite! The only track I was a bit disappointed with was SDF; Apart from being re-mixed (not remixed) for the album, there's no 'narration' on it. It feels a bit like a missed opportunity. And your comments about Goetia I'd agree with. Wasn't what I was expecting... but it's for everyone to make up their own minds and opinions. It did though, sound like something you might find in a Hellraiser movie.

Overall review a great album... There were times I half expected the guitars and drums etc to kick in... It's different from most Cradle releases. What it lacks in heavy guitars it makes up for in heavy atmosphere, and sounds genuinely like something you'd hear on a film soundtrack.

I'm looking forward to hearing the tracks with 'all guns blazing' when Cradle play them live. It should be really great to hear. And I can't wait to see them play in 2013. Reworked Midnight versions and new songs. Should be a fantastic to behold!
