Just though I'd make a discussion on what was your most recent film you've seen.. and then you guys could maybe type a brief plot line of the movie and then give your review, on how good you thought the movie was.
Transformers : Dark Of The Moon = Best Movie Of 2011
That's all I have to say..
I suggest ALL of you to see it...
Even better than the blockbuster hit Battle : Los Angeles ;)

It's now taking in the full story that was left out as it wasn't really suitable for a kids book and ended up in The Silmarillion. Right from the first days of production parts of The Silmarillion were already in the script, so I applaud Jackson for going ahead with the full story rather than the thinly plotted Hobbit. The original script was passed to the Tolkien Society so fans could see what the story would involve and from day one it was never going to be one film. They held back to make it all seem like new news to those that aren't fanatics, but we knew all along it was going to be 2 films at the very least. Jackson couldn't give to shits about money or the film industry, he does as he pleases and always has, that's why he's so respected!
I agree Hugo was a brilliant film and far more deserving of awards than The Artist which was just a load of shit that was forgotten right after the awards. Hugo I'd give 9/10. It was a lovingly made old school family Christmas film.

I loved Hugo and regret having missed it in theatres and in 3D, which was by all accounts magnificent and though I can concede the substance of the film was a thinner serving than what it could have been, I think what I loved it for is everything it was and all it had compared to everything else in cinema and media as a whole today. It deserved everything The Artist was acclaimed for, which actually was an empty-hearted and headed, simpering award pleader. I also recommend the novel.
As for the Lord of the Rings, I couldn't care an ounce less and am disappointed and irritated by The Hobbit, which was a book that I did love as a child exactly because it was its own entity and to be enjoyed on its own, degraded to simply being the Lord of the Rings prequel trilogy and a money grab for the film industry with no other major franchises to profit from at the moment. I see nothing of the book in The Hobbit film.
Permalink Reply by Psychoscot on August 18, 2012 at 0:07 Anyone after LOTR that thought they would EVER get a "Hobbit" film clearly is not thinking! The Trilogy was so successful it was planned right from there to continue in the same vein! Hence why Jackson finally gave in and directed them himself. Money aside he was not happy with anyone deviating from the tone of his trilogy. The Hobbit was never going to be a straight adaptation and that was pretty much a given even before the last of the first 3 films came out. It was also known that it would be at the very least 2 films maybe 3 by most diehard fans right from the first days of production. What Jackson wanted to film was never going to make 1 film! The studio for once actually didn't want 3 films and hadn't agreed to finance them, but he's filmed so much extra footage that it was actually cast members that suggested he just get it out the way and film the entire story from the Hobbits time period. He had to have talks with the studio to get further funds rather than the studio agree it all up front.
Jackson has never cared about the money and after those last 3 he's not short of any, so anyone moaning about greedy studios really hasn't a clue what they are talking about in this instance. Yes there are greedy directors "George Lucas" but Jackson isn't one of them, his heart is in making these films to the best of his ability and has been a labour of love for him since his teens when he first dreamt of making them!

From the perspective of an outsider to the greater Tolkien canon who only has read The Hobbit, thinly-plotted it may be, but for what it is (a classic work of fantasy literature -- fantasy as in novels like The Wind in the Willows, Lewis Carroll's Alice and so on, not the epic variety such as Lord of the Rings) I and certainly many others love it just for that reason. That is what I would have liked a Hobbit movie to be, and visionary and respectable as Mr Jackson is, you cannot honestly believe money played no role whatsoever in deciding to expand the film into two -- or three.
Permalink Reply by Nutsack of Filth on August 18, 2012 at 1:13 Different strokes then, regarding Hugo. I thought it was essentially Martin Scorsese jerking himself off over how amazing he is. It had some pretty dodgy performances from otherwise good actors too. I am a Scorsese fan, by the way, and by all accounts this should have been his magnus opus but I wasn't sorry when it finished.
As for The Hobbit, wasn't Guillermo Del Toro on to direct at one point?
Permalink Reply by Psychoscot on August 18, 2012 at 1:18 Yeh Del Toro was hired and actually started pre production but clashes came thick and fast and to save their friendship he bowed out. He was taking it in a direction away from what Jackson had set with LOTR and they were fighting each other daily, so he walked.

Permalink Reply by Nutsack of Filth on August 18, 2012 at 1:20 Probably the right thing to do. But I haven't been seeing enough of Del Toro recently - he was meant to be doing a film version of The Haunted Mansion ride (in an attempt to forget that fuckawful Eddie Murphy one) but it's all gone quiet.
Permalink Reply by Nutsack of Filth on August 18, 2012 at 1:25 Yeah, Chloe Moretz really wasn't very good. She's a very impressive actress for her age, and having to do a film in a foreign accent so soon can't have been easy, but even so. Whoever played Hugo was fine, I guess, but had an annoying habit of moving his mouth all the time when he wasn't speaking.
And I very much disagree with you on Pan's Labyrinth. Fair enough if you think it's overrated, but the most overrated of the past decade? Simply not true. I could probably prove it with a pen and paper.

A couple of the actors did take away from my enjoyment (that girl who is in everything these days and is half a step up from unbearably obnoxious) but I do think it was a lovely film.
And he was indeed, which if I remember correctly his idea was to have the first film stand on its own and the second segue into Jackson's Lord of the Rings as it played through to precipitate that, which would have been nice. I am going to line myself up in front of a pride of lions however and say that Pan's Labyrinth is absolutely and easily the single most overrated movie I have watched in the past decade.
Permalink Reply by Psychoscot on August 18, 2012 at 1:34 Pans Labyrinth is a brilliant fantasy film.
As for Moretz, she has a bright future providing she continues on the Portman route and stays clear of teen movies. I'm delighted that Kick Ass 2 finally starts filming next month, if they waited any longer she would be too old to pull it off as well!
She was kind of wrong for the part in Hugo but did the best she could. Her accent was certainly better than Depp's in From Hell and he has no "age" excuse lol!
Permalink Reply by Nutsack of Filth on August 18, 2012 at 1:39 I thought Depp's From Hell accent was alright for a first go - much better than Heather Graham's was anyway. His British accents now are among the best I've heard from an American (even did a pretty good Scottish one for Finding Neverland). Shame he's such an unbelievable fascist animal-murderering Jew.
Yeah, I thought Dakota Fanning was going to be good, but now look at her - fucking Twilight. Saoirse Ronan was also promising, but though not her fault, The Lovely Bones was eh ... really bad.

They didn't have Chloe's mother and brother who seem to be very wise in what they choose for her! I'm looking forward to the new version of Carrie which just finished filming with her and Julianne Moore as her crazy ass mother, that has promise.
I enjoyed Ronan in Hanna, and the recent announcement that she is to play Mary Queen of Scots in the newly announced biopic is interesting and if done well could be a serious career booster. With Hirst the writer behind the Elizabeth films and The Tudors it has serious possibilities!

Permalink Reply by Psychoscot on August 18, 2012 at 2:47 lol Constant on set tweets by her brother, yep yet another remake. To be fair the original is hardly a classic although it does have it's fans. The calibre of the main casting is good enough that I'll give it a go! I'd rather see this than that bloody Total Recall remake as I really can't stand Farrell and will never forgive Mann for casting that tosser in Miami Vice! lol

Permalink Reply by Nutsack of Filth on August 18, 2012 at 2:50 The original is iconic though, and heavily-referenced in pop culture. I can't see many ways a modern remake will improve on it, although I can see how they might fuck it up completely. Ugh. Can't wait for the Kill Bill-esque period at the beginning and the giant CGI monster hand of doom at the end.
Yeah I saw the trailer for the Total Recall remake. Fuck it.
