We are now in England, year 1993. You go out to a local pub to get a few drinks and talk with some friends, maybe even try to find a girl for the night and get jiggy with her later. When you see that a new local black metal band called, Cradle Of Filth, is playing tonight. Interested.. you go check them out. To your fortune, you get a front row position. Knowing that this band might be popular someday, you start recording the concert.. This is the footage you recorded that night.

You love the band so much, that you find out there playing nearby tomorrow again. You go there again to see them play, again you get a good front row spot, and again you start recording, and this is the footage you recorded.

The rest is history...

That's the thing, I know you were definitely one of the "handful" and just as positively involved in the DDVA discussions too. He really should do another blog possibly after release of MITL once he's read our comments for and against like with DDVA.

I was surprised he mentioned people as it can be hard and I honestly believe there were more longer term faithful members way more deserving than me at the time. I was very surprised for that reason mainly, well that is after I messaged everyone I knew with a link ... PMSL

I sorta wish Dani would do another blog entry like this again. It was real fun to read (although I wasn’t part of the elated few, the “handful of regulars who keep the conversations and comments fresh and exciting, topical and unbiased”) and answered a few questions.

Depends who does the final mix. Hopefully they do pull it up a bit more. Remember  Dani's blog he was a bit pissed of about that topic to say the least, though we were exempt thankfully PMSL

Also don't forgot the bass. Please bring it up higher in the mix please!

Yes, I agree the bass is very important and as fans if there is a flaw it should be pointed out so the bands can learn and try something different which I think Paul was on about mentioning the "layering" in that interview, hopefully.

I can understand after all the effort put into their work and I'm assuming he was saying that positive criticism is fine but not the rubbish hence the "unbiased" bit.

So comments like these are fine, he was pissed about the obviously abusive and personal attacks that was being thrown around rather than thought out criticism good or bad. :)

Well I mean, I don't think he should be pissed. It gives them the chance for future release to take that into account you know? I mean what is heavy metal without the bass?

All the great bands that had that bass way up in the mix, sound so sick.

The only time I really heard it in DDVA was in Lilith Immaculate.

It's very apparent in the first few Cradle albums as well.

Yeah like the ridiculous criticism of "Ugh it doesn't sound like Dusk or Principle, why? Why can't they sound like that again? Sell-outs, Ugh."

Haha thats the most popular one.

LOL pretty much.

Why I don't bother too much anymore is one time I put 6 albums on a CD stacker on Shuffle and though I recognized the songs it was hard to tell what the differences were between albums in some cases! Just sounded like they could have been on the same album!

Thanks for that piece of history. It's one of the roughest footage ever. Yet it has that strange, dark atmosphere. Love it.

You're welcome guys! Could you imagine Cradle coming onto stage for their first concert this year, being in all corpse paint, wearing band tee's, and black jeans? That would be amazing <3 And then having the old line up for one concert too. I would ejaculate all over the place if that ever happened.

Pretty sure it’s not possible without a major hassle to have the current band members as Cradle of Filth while all the former ones are supposed to play the songs from back then. And today’s fans wouldn’t like it, either: Keep in mind only a small fraction know and like old Cradle. I’m also quite certain the band themselves have far from a complete set of old band shirts (remember how Paul asked around on Facebook for people who would send him pictures of the old designs so that he could reprint them). It would be similar to what Emperor did – just think of the final show at Wacken 2007. Emperor, however, split up before that (at the right time, as I see it), with a fairly complete and a not totally wrecked up lineup.

I know it's never going to happen, but it's nice to imagine :)

Dimmu Borgir just did a fan vote of what album, from their first three, they should play in it's entirety. And then did an entire UK tour of having one set of "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" played in it's entirety, and then a second set of fan favorites. Cradle could do something like that, to please both old and new Cradle fans. And maybe for the album played in it's entirety set (I would assume Cradle would let the fans choose from their first 3 albums), they could dress like they did during that era, and then for the fan favorite set, dress like how they do now. I personally wonder why Cradle don't hire me as their touring manager or whoever thinks up of stuff like this.

Because you, in taste and mind, are part of a diminutive minority of modern Cradle’s fanbase.

You have to be able to deal with all sorts of situations and people in high stress environments for one. Imagine for instance there is a packed entertainment center 10 minutes before the start and no-one knows where Dani is? What do you say or do? You spoke to him just as you left the Hotel and now he isn't answering his mobile.

There IS a very simple answer to this but what is it?

the bass and other stuff but i guess we all already know cradle is a guitar based band since almost 7 years ago, for fuck' sake one of the two cradle leaders is a guitar player not a bass or keyboard player, i'm not surprised cof musical direction is 90% guitar.

Metal is heavily guitar based always but the Rhythm (Bass and Drums) is what drives the band! Without a good rhythm section it becomes at best Rock and Roll.

In the next album Paul is trying to get a more driven sound with fast guitar work. The only way to do this in any Metal band is to use a good mix of Rhythm and Lead. The better the mix the better the sound!

Thing is both James and especially Dave contributed in the writing of DDVA, but, from what I've heard, are not writing at all for the new album which would mean Paul is composing the Bass I guess, so he must have something in mind?
