Hey guys. I thought it would be nice to post a discussion related to an upcoming album. I'm referring to the sound, the theme, the atmosphere etc. I know Paul is already writing some new material and that it is gonna be darker and faster than Godspeed.
I think it would be awesome to share ideas with each other about an upcoming album. Let's hope that we together can create another masterpiece ;)

I would like more emphasis on the keyboards, making it darker and bringing more atmosphere in the music. The keyboards are nowadays pushed to the background. The return of a choir would be nice too. Also remain playing fast, but write a few songs that are slow or mid-tempo. That creates more differences between songs. The guitars should have the power like on Godspeed, but blend them with more melody like on Dusk and Cruelty. I don't say anything about the vocals and the drums, because those are always great :D

I wouldn't like another concept album, something like The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh in terms of how the songs are independent in concept is a good approach.

It could be about the dark arts, pestilence, Poe stories, Anne Rice novels, 19th Century occult culture...

Have dominant keyboards, written alongside the song and not after. Drop off the "blast" start song, it gets old and it doesn't make a good blend with the intro, Heaven Torn Asunder is a great first song for example.

Expand the band itself with writing enteties and have Dani manage the band and have it agree with every song written. Paul is a good guitarist but not a good songwriter, another guitarist writing the riffs alone or with Paul is better.

If Dani can get the Midian/Damnation voice back at least it would be awesome. I'm sure he has, but those low primal vocals and clean screams put me off a little. I want the impish Dani voice back.

Martin could come back. Is he still studying?

I can't help being biased, when I look at the Midian era and see a perfect band where all agree and all write stuff colectively and with professionalism while having fun, I can't help but wish that back to them.

Ditching Roadrunner would help too.
well Paul may or may not read this does it matter
its an opinion
even if he doesn't, even if none of them do
its still a good discussion to have
bring back the keyboards like in The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh, and some Death Growls like in "Unbridled At Dusk" the shrieks are still pretty nice. More atmosphere like in "Cruelty And The Beast" And MORE DARKER!!! like the good old days. none of the love songs anymore. it's not that the love songs are not good.... it just doesn't seem like the Cradle we use to know and love (1991 - 2000)
That last sentence. That would fix half of their problems.

Or the debauchery and 'evil' practices of European colonisers in the Americas.

An album about the darker side of ancient civilisations would be an interesting idea, like Aztec, Mayan, Sumerian etc... It would be a very different subject to base the album upon, and a chance to incorperate ethnic musical elements.

perhaps The Mayan/Aztek dark of the past should be expressed, snake gods hungry for sacrafice, cruel sun gods, wicked priests of war, prophecies of doom, and star worshipers who had detailed astronomy and varied myths... with some hints of truth worth exploring for themes of dark cruelty. Just thought i would mention an alternative to Vlad when it comes to album concepts
That "Smurf" is one of the best keyboardists I've heard in any band. I met her during her stint with "The Orbs" this past summer. Ashley kicks ass.

I think they mean more leaning towards the Bram Stoker version mate, which would be ok providing Martin hadn't left. His touch would have made it far more Gothic. But that new Smurf they have on keyboards is pretty good

Honestly what band that writes about vampires hasn't done Vlad Tepes yet? All aboard the commerical bandwagon, for real.
Yeah it's not like we need any more vampire-related material. We already have one author ruining it, and making annoying movies from her obnoxious creation. Cradle of Filth needs to go back to their Lovecraft days and explore more territory regarding tentacles, cenobites and madness. I like the idea of them exploring story lines based on typically untouched civilizations. If they want to do something you don't expect, they should definitely explore the Mayan connection.
If they do want to touch on vampires, they need to take a look at the Necroscope books by Brian Lumley. There is plenty of sex, violence, and Lovecraftian horror in that. The vampires themselves are leeches from another dimension that attach themselves to a host and vampirize them. If that doesn't scream CoF, what does?

I like the idea of heavy synths, bringing in a more dark, gothic feeling to the music. Perhaps there could be some more lyrics on factual stories such as in Cruelty and the Beast? Something that we could listen to, and learn a little bit of history as well.
I'm still wondering who will do the keyboards for this new album? And hopefully who ever works on keyboards should make it sound darker and symphonic.
Well, since Ashley is a great keyboard player, I guess she will handle all the symfonic stuff

The reason why I asked is because she is supposed to be playing live only. I did not hear anything about her being part of the band and usually Cradle of Filth has someone else working on keyboards for their albums.
This time it's Ashley, Dani himself affirmed that.
