tis a shame that there are no really decent horror movies around at the moment, its even worse when they remake classics, tho i still want to find out what rob zombie did to halloween( must be one of the few who hasnt seen it), and as my other half reminded me just now, things like house of 1000 corpses and 28 days/weeks later were of the good.

all the movie people seem to care about at the moment is filling the tills, nothing about scaring the wits out of people, even looking to japan to remake theirs, ringu and the grudge were perfect as they were, till hollywood got hold of them:(

i just hope that they dont get hold of one of my favs, Brotherhood of the wolf, not strictly horror but a bit of everything... and its french:)
I prefer the American versions of the Ring and Grudge, though I got bored (even though they are basically the same movies) of the Jap versions and never finished watching them. Zombie's remake of Halloween is TOTALLY AWESOME!!! Even though it (Rob Zombie's Halloween) is one of the best movies ever the Original Halloween is still the best.

Modern horror movies that have been being released are terrible. The only good horror that is being released now is underground such as the August Underground series, Slaughtered Vomit Dolls, ReGOREgitated Sacrifice, The Gateway Meat, Gutterballs, etc any underground horror for that matter, you can't go wrong.
Im going to see unborn on friday or next friday whenever it comes out...lets see if its an epic fail O.o
i think basically all of the "horror" movies the churn out now are just all the same, they do nothing for me. i personally enjoy watching the old classic horrors, and im talking like Vincent Price, black and whites or the originals of some of the remakes they have now... i dunno, the old movies just seem to have something about them that makes them better....
Horror movies of today are all about the blood, and that's not always very scary. I prefer the more psychological horror movies, that ones that can really screw with your mind. They don't show anything too gory, it's all left to your imagination and if you are anything like me then that's gonna be very very scary. ;)
I do think some films have had good remakes done, The Omen for one was a good remake but I personally think that 'Damien's acting was better when done by Harvey Stephens (who is a lovely guy by the way, so polite). But there are some films that have to be left alone, they loose their "scare" when remade.
I just wish that people wouldn't do such stupid things when being chased by some kind of manic killer, grab a couple of knives and slice his goddamn throat open before he does it to you! In reality you'd kick someone's head in for trying to kill you, wouldn't you? Don't grab the baseball bat, just grab your steel plated new rocks and smash him in the jaw, it's the more logical choice. Does more damage.
In order to find something truly scary, a part of you must believe in it.

Watch Rosemary's Baby sometime. In the 1970s, everyone - and I do mean everyone - believed in the physical presence of the devil on this earth, working nefarious deeds with the help of wicked cultists who appeared to be respectable members of society. So that movie was freakin' scary.

In the 1970s.

Today, not so much. People like me who remember the 1970s still feel that chill when we see the baby's eyes at the end, because we were part of that culture, the same culture that was terrified by The Exorcist because we believed the devil might actually possess us or someone we knew, that was frightened by The Omen because we believed the antichrist might really be out there right now plotting and scheming to bring about the day of reckoning.

Today, we don't believe in shit!

What's one of the worst, most horrible things you can imagine? What terrifies you? What scares the ever-loving crap out of you so badly, you can barely stand to think about it?

AIDS, global warming, and peak oil?

That movie would be pants. In fact, Al Gore already made it - and it was pants. Our fears today are just stupid. Nothing really scares us. So modern moviemakers can't tap into anything that's really scary, and as a result, neither they nor their actors believe that what's happening is scary. And it shows.

Why is Rosemary's Baby still an effective movie? Because it's believable. It doesn't scare the crap out of anyone, but look at the doctor toward the end. Look at that smug, self-important smirk on his face. He's completely believable as the secret leader of a devil-worshiping cult, because deep down, he believes it could happen. And that comes through, even today, almost forty years later.

That's what modern horror is missing. It's not believable. The director doesn't believe it, the actors don't believe it, and the audience doesn't believe it. More than ever before, it's only a movie.
I disagree, High School The Musical 3: Senior Year was bloody terrifying! It really was like you were watching the apocalypse roll in.
I think you are kind of right because the style of movies just keep getting newer and more modern,, and there are more affects then actual dark and fearful,, I find a lot of the older movies to be more scary,, like a black christmas,, by the way you have to check out my bloody valentine 3d,, the shit blew my mind,, its more gory then scary but still good,, go in high, lol
i think what it is, there are so many horror movies coming out all the time people are so used to them that they dont get scared any more. how often can you really get scared by some demented loser chasing a group of airhead teens with a big knife? what i would like to see is a movie that explores people's real fears. that might work a little better...
Horror films nowadays are fucking stupid.
It's all repetitive, rip-offs, remakes, predictable, and THEY ARE NOT SCARY.

I like horror films from the 70's, like Halloween, The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, and Jaws.
Hitchcock was a genius and anything with Vincent Price was amazing.
