What is good/bad about the album. Opinions?

Personally this album blew me the hell away. When they first released the song Tragic Kingdom I basically died in awe.

It was better than the two albums before it but it all sounded very 'cut, copy, paste' and the songs didn't really go anywhere or do anything remotely exciting.

Being slightly better than the two bad albums that came out before it kind of gave this album an un-deserved image of being better than it actually was.
Like the previous two albums, it gets boring really quick, whereas the latter "epic" and "theme" albums (Damnation, Midian, CTB, etc) still hold weight over the test of time. Only really "throwback" song they had was Honey and Sulphur. One song doesn't cut it for me.

Problem is you can't cut those former glorious albums, when you cheat the formula that made them. Paul, nor any one man, can do it alone, despite the fact he keeps trying. The later albums success comes from two dominant, not one...guitarists, such the Gian/Stuart or Gian/Paul days. Shitty thing is that James is an excellent guitarist, and proved that contributing to key parts in Nymphetamine, but is very under-utilized for whatever reason.

Thank god Charles Peavey tone is gone, ugh!
I dont see how it was a reminescent of Midian, I think more Cruelty and Nymphetamine with some Dusk.

The bad: The Death of Love, 13th Caesar, Ten Leagues Beneath Contempt. Why wasn't Balsamic and Anathema and A Thousand Hand on the Maid of Ruin on the album?
I like this album a lot,but I prefer older stuff...even thornography and nymphetamine.
the sound was not something I like, and in my opinion that sound didn't match them either.
Mr.Filth used more growls than his famous howls/screams/shrieks...cal it how you want..and he sounded like a tired man to me.
hope on the new one, things get better. :)
Well yes in term of tempo, plus only one guitar player.
But like the feel to it reminded me of Cruelty, but still had its own sound.

It felt more similar to Midian (and Damnation, to an exent) to me. Purely in terms of sound and ambience. Cruelty and Dusk both had far more "slow" songs and slow passages within songs, whereas Godspeed is more like Midian and Damnation in that it often maintains a fast tempo.

Listened to it to exhaustion at the time it was released but after some time I grew tired of it, though some songs I still go back to like Balsamic And Anathema, Ten Leagues Beneath Conetempt and Midnight Shadow Crawl To Darken Counsel With Life.

Some songs sounded very much alike, not in orquestration but in the feel, mood and speed. The whole faster, darker thing didn't work out for them. Most of all, Dani's voice is the heartbreaking part, Thornography didn't have much screaming and the vocals sounded unhealthy, but I much prefer the raspy mid-range voice used in this album than the dry growls of Godspeed. It was a throwback to kind of vocals I don't like (aka deep) used too much for singing. The screams all sounded the same and very clean. This is specially strange since Dani's voice was great in the live videos from mid to late 2007, with the raspy voice plus good screams.

Overall it was better than Thornography but I dunno if I'd put it above Nymphetamine.
His vocals in that album were so good! It sounded demonic and so natural. Guitar was great, I mostly compare it to Principle actually. One thing about it was that it did get a bit repetitive, but the special edition corrected that problem IMO.
My thoughts exactly... Dani was really into this album, he tried his best to sound as good as possible and he did it with focus and passion... Godspeed was about himself and he seemed really pleased with it.

I really miss the deep spoken vocals like he used to do on the earlier albums. Like on the first verse of Funeral In Carpathia, the start of Queen Of Winter Throned, the first verse of Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids etc...
I agree. I miss the deep spoken vocals as well. I wonder why he stopped doing them. I felt it made the songs more creepy/evil sounding.. It would be great if he started doing those vocals again.
Definitely, may have waited for the new album to not overdo it tho', like "there's the mandatory deep spoken vocal."

Seems like you are hearing and feeling what I got from Dani's vocals here.

As to the others, I would like those deep spoken vocals too. With the newer albums it seems Dani got rid of all the vocal effects and layering as well which I thought added more to the music.

He should also do a shout like he did on The Rape and Ruin.
