The biggest wave in recorded history was 516 meters (1,720ft) high. It occured in Alaska in 1958 after an earthquake measuring 7.9 on the richter scale sent 30 million cubic meters of mountain to fall into the ocean.

Amazingly, 2 people who were in the wave's path in a boat survived.
