The Sword and the Sorcerer
First in its genre ... intriguing
The film-making side of it ... and the three-bladed sword!!!
Well you were just a sparkle in you fathers eye when it came out ... at the time tho' it was new and refreshingly dark ... now, well one of many :)
I assure you it's not my fault either, wasn't in London at the time ... haha
Nostalgia for sure, same with music ... memories of certain "good" times recalled ...

Same with Hellraiser
I don't have a top film I have a top 5

1, Pulp Fiction
2, Suspiria
3, American Beauty
4, Chasing Amy
5, John Woo's The Killer
I just love Lester Burham in Beauty, Kevin acted the part to perfection. Its a powerfull film with some strong messages but at the same time it has some hilarious scenes that just get funnier every time you see it. Some people like to get wasted and watch Cheech and Chong movies, I'd rather get stoned off my face and join Lester!

Burton isn't in the same league as Gilliam. Burtons seriously overrated, his kiddie goth tones got annoying pretty fast. He basically makes the same film over and over. The Imaginarium Of Dr Parnassus is a brilliant film. Burton could never make a movie like that or Brazil in a million years.

To actually answer the topic's question well ... actually I can't! I can never say what my single favourite anything is, as it tends to change.

A few films which are always in my top 10 though:

Once Upon A Time In America (which I think probably is the best film ever made)
Pulp Fiction
Dead Man
Angel Heart
The Big Lebowski
Taxi Driver
The Holy Mountain or El Topo - can't decide
Mulholland Drive

and recently, The Imaginarium Of Dr Parnassus has been creeping up my list - it really is a great fantasy film. I've always said that Terry Gilliam is just like a better version of Tim Burton.

P.S. Psychoscot, my godfather works closely with Kevin Spacey at the Old Vic, so I've had the good fortune of meeting him a few times. He told me that he dislikes virtually every film he's done with the exception of American Beauty and The Usual Suspects - although I think he may have been neglecting Se7en!
Visitor Q is an awesome movie, I have a lot of Takashi Miike's movies on dvd, was nice to see him get a cameo in Hostel but then Roth did nick a hell of a lot of ideas off him lol

Agreed, American Beauty is a great film - the only problem I have with it is that it's a bit derivative (basically a modernised Death Of A Salesman with bits borrowed from Lolita etc.), but I think that was most likely intentional. If you liked that, you should check out Takashi Miike's Visitor Q, which is basically like an extreme, more disturbing version of American Beauty - with some shocking, yet really darkly humourous scenes!

100% agreed about Tim Burton. He really is a one-trick pony. It's really a shame that The Imaginarium Of Dr. Parnassus got such limited attention, whereas Burton's vastly inferior Alice In Wonderland was so huge.

I just watched Tideland yesterday - that's an extremely disturbing film! I found it very hard to watch, and I'm still not sure if I like it or not. But that was essentially a "real-world" Alice In Wonderland story - and I actually think Burton copied his "falling down the rabbit-hole" sequence from it, as it looks almost identical to a similar sequence in Tideland.

My personal favourites are the following in their order.

1. The Crow (the first one, the 2nd and 3rd crow movies sucked.)

2. Bam Margera's Haggard

3. Queen Of The Damned

4. The Devil's Advocate

5. 28 Weeks Later

6. Interview With A Vampire
Have to agree, too many to list ... if the actors are convincing, cinematography, editing all good plus a reasonably thought out story ... then it's money well spent.
Will check out some of the one's list above that I haven't seen.

Up In Smoke - Cheech and Chong (1978) Premier Sydney Opera House - Ha ...packed with stoners ...the ushers didn't get it !!! Now that brings back memories ...
Halloween ( The remake of Rob Zombie).
I have seen all old Halloween movies and they're good but this one is the best one! (My opinion).
