To me, it seems like Al Gore's two-hour-movie summed up in five minutes. And with much better music.
I have always thought this section is one of the finest moments in Dani's writing career:

"We've woven hearts a thorn arbour
Left tear streaked reason upon the shore
And bereft of compass, star or more
Set out for this World's end
Few at the prow, most slave below
Painting coal a perfect gold
But for all it's worth, the engines slow
Dead in the brine again
Come cabin fever, sodomy on the bounty
Prey to phallus seas
That hiss and foam to douse disease
A storm roars on the way
Blacker than the Ace of Rapes
Dealt out by Death in darkwood glades
Our Ship of Fools, all boards handmade
Sinks, dashed by seismic waves..."
Yeah, and I think Doug was the right guy to say it, but Godspeed is slightly better lyrically than Thorno buuuuuuut it's no Cruelty or Midian or whatever album has the best lyrics

Ah those were the days ... the lyrics just haven't been living up to that standard in recent years, sadly. All of the lyrics up until about Thornography surpassed a lot of the most famous poets in terms of wordsmithery (yet, of course, get no recognition because it's just dumb metal right?)

I know, he was like 20 somethin when he wrote principle lyrics

I think VEmpire, Dusk, Cruelty and Midian all tie equal for the best lyrics, although the lyrics for Principle, Damnation and, to some extent, Nymphetamine are all excellent too.

The lyrics for Godspeed are good, they're just nowhere near as clever. It amazes me that Dani could actually write the lyrics for Principle - Cruelty at such a young age, and with seemingly little time. It's like his lyric-writing skills have gone in reverse!

This song has good lyrics, no doubt, but the best ones on this wonderful album have to be in either Saffron's Curse, Lord Abortion, Tearing the Veil from Grace or Torture Soul Asylum.
