That, and he is getting old.
He's thirty-six, almost pushing forty.
Most singers' voices change once the age.
Look at Bob Dylan, Eddie Vedder, and Roger Daltry.
Permalink Reply by Scott Milliorn on September 8, 2009 at 19:41 hell most extreme metal vocalists smoke!!!! randy blythe from lamb of god; shagrath from dimmu borgir; angela gossow from arch enemy only quit recently and theyre all still good and ive seen loads more doing it too ......... itll change your clean singing voice like bob dylan, but shouldnt negatively effect your screaming or growling, according to melissa cross anyway who taught loads of famous screamers
the reason his voice has changed is cos he was doing a very tempremental style of screaming which is hard to keep for long without training ...... its amazing he lasted as long as he did really!!!! his new styles okay though, most people would have given up or gone for a different style altogether but hes still trying to keep his high screams and i actually think theyr harder to do than the old ones, although obviously i prefer the old ones ........ anyway the point is, smoking probably had very little to do with it, i think its just that the style he was doing is very hard to keep up for long and he maybe sustained vocal chord damage at some point as a result of doing it every night for god knows how long, and thats probably what changed his voice ..... if youre really perceptive youll notice that his speaking voice is also pretty different from what it was back in the 1990s

Permalink Reply by Leanne Jane on September 13, 2009 at 18:20 I don't know why JD is so cool to drink, it's crap compared to real whiskies. I've noticed that my voice changes when I smoke compared to weeks when I don't smoke at all. It could be different for people who smoke all the time but my voice gets lower and rougher when I smoke.
