The more recent arguments that I have read on the "Dani Doesn't Put as Much Effort on his Vocals" thread inspired me to create this little discussion. So, I feel this is relevant to not only the band, but to other aspects of the metal genre and onward. Ahem...

Lets start off with a basic question. "What do you think the ideal metal band should look and act like?"

Now, think about this:

"Society uses the media as an influential tool in order to create ideas, norms, and gender roles. Society also uses the media to deem what should be and what should not. The media is used to subordinate some ideas/objects/people socially and politically."

So, my dears, my questions for you are:

1. How has the media influenced your idea of what the "ideal" metal band should look like?

2. Does Cradle fit into the previous question? Explain.

3. Think of the current line-up. What type of message are they trying to convey to society through the recent album, DDVA? Past albums? How does imagery help?

Think about this. Misrepresentation is defined as to represent incorrectly, improperly, or falsely. To represent in an unsatisfactory manner.

How are Cradle and other musicians misrepresented?

America does have a fixation with violence (and sex, but in a different way), but no moreso than any other first-world country, I don't think.  The difference is in the attitudes and how the images of violence are processed.

Then again, you're still more likely to be a victim of violent crime in London than you are in New York - the main difference is that we don't have guns and we do have free healthcare, which I guess allows people to "let loose" a little bit more.  Basically, if you walk around even the busiest parts of London on a weekend night, you will see someone getting pummelled.  It doesn't even shock us!  This afternoon I slipped on some blood in a cornershop - turns out some guy had come in bleeding from the stomach and bought some tampons.

Yep :]

The entire topic isn't just about Cradle it's about Cradle as well as other bands and attitudes! So while it does take Cradle in and is in the right forum section it does take into account other things!

Piggy-backing off what Kevin said.

Cradle and censorship. Their video for "From the Cradle to Enslave" has two versions. The censored and uncensored, obviously.

1.Media is like rain.Certain things u do affect it,so everything that comes from media is actually pointed at u.

2.Well u dont see it in mainstream, but just locally ,maybe for example local metal groups lifting their status and that way they are like subliminal messages from society and people around u.

3.As for DDVA the message is clear after "godspeed" if u look at it the lilith aspect included to it,so its like continuim and maybe lighter version from goodspeed.

Ya i didn´t read the whole thread and just answered the original question and by now somebody knows it allready:]So mainstream metal band what would it look like it would look like what people are reading from me all the time and now close your eyes and listen.

Yup ever since the 80's Hard Rock and Metal bands and for that matter Gangster Rap artists have had to make censored versions of any vid if they want it played on US RUN MTV if their original idea is too adult. Kerrang TV in the UK is a music channel and they show uncut vids after midnight. Although I doubt any music channel would play Rammsteins Pussy uncut LOL as its hard porn and was only officially shown on a porn site.

Times have definitely changed though, I remember when Motley Crue released the vid to Girls Girls Girls and MTV said NO WAY! now it's freely shown anytime of day in it's uncut form as compared to Hiphop and RnB vids these days it's seriously tame. Attitudes to nudity in this area "Music vids" has got to the point where as long as your not doing a Rammstein then chances are it will be approved and shown on Music channels after a certain time of day.

From the Cradle is still a pretty adult vid and showing a pierced vagina is still a no no to networks. Vids are still banned but they have to be pretty extreme to the mass population to get that far. Old Manson himself is well aware of that. He released the vid to sAINT online knowing fans would download it and and then the track as it was one of his better later songs. Then the cd best of album came out with a 2nd disc of all the vids and the full uncut version was on that. I will be very interested when my Rammstein boxset arrives since it includes every video made and makings of, as to whether the full Pussy vid is on it. The Boxset bypasses our censors because the deluxe version is a German only release.

Hmmm... this topic has been dead for awhile.

How do you all feel about the 'Jesus is a Cunt' T-shirts?

Besides "I WANT ONE!", preferably the L/S with the red stuff on the sleeves, not much, that is, it doesn't bother me. The Tee certainly gave the band some notoriety in it's day so in that aspect a great marketing idea. The band would have been damn well aware of this knowing it would set them up as notorious and trve BM ... some shattered illusions kiddies :P

The overlooked fact in Pagan times the Godhead (the Goddess) was seen as the female and the "cunt" as the "vessel" or path to enlightenment. I tend to agree as a good fuck can certainly make both participants toes curl!
Now in Christianity good old Jesus was perceived in the same manner as the Goddess as "the way" to truth and enlightenment so obviously one can only come to one conclusion, and I'm sure this was Dani's hidden meaning mostly overlooked ... Jesus IS a cunt!
