Cradle's last great album was Godspeed.
Before that was Midian..

The music on Godspeed was really fast and dark, but I didn't feel the energy that previous albums had.
Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder!! is fucking great....whats wrong with it????? before that Damnation is a masterpiece also....not a big fan of midian but it has its goods.....
Midian.
I would say Damnation not many liked it but it is one of my favorites
Nymphetamine was good
I thought Thornography was decent
Godspeed was good

Even though Dani may have lost his voice after Damnation I really like the lyrics of all CoF's cds and that usually decides for me if their songs are good or bad
i didnt like damnation (except for a few songs)
is that it was just boring
and the songs sounded the same
and no unique,standout songs
like..
funeral in carpthia is the standout song for dusk (for me)

godspeed was just pretty bad.. i liked death of love.. darkness incarnate and tragic kingdom
thats about it
it was also boring and just not a very good album
The thing I really liked about GotDT was the story they had for Gilles De Rais to me that was interesting and overall made it a good album

I consider "Classic" CoF last album was Midian or really Cruelty since major lineup changes started to occur that influenced and shifted there style.
Well, any Cradle album is a great album really, in that they often surpass other bands from any genres.

But I think Midian is probably where the road ended in terms of getting better, so to speak, i.e. they never matched nor bettered it in any subsequent releases.

I do think Paul's apparent "promotion" which seemed to happen after Nymphetamine has dampened Cradle a bit. I mean, he's a good guitarist and writes some good riffs, but I don't know if it's a great idea for him to be in charge of the music and have a decent say in where the band is going ... then you get albums like Thornography. The only thing saving Godspeed from being as bad was the concept and vocals. The music on both Thornography and Godspeed, namely the guitars, was very samey indeed, and when listening to Godspeed for the first few times I couldn't distinguish one song from another because the riffs were so similar.

I mean, Dani doesn't even seem to do interviews anymore. I agree with Adam (for those who got his "resignation" message) in that Cradle do seem to be going a bit wrong ... the latest one which made me wince is that Dani walked off stage with a couple of songs left in Adelaide and just never came back, and no explanation was given by any other member of the band either. Just one thing came to my head when I read that ... "Axl Rose".

Oh well, hopefully it all gets better! And like I said, a bad Cradle album is still a great one.
For me, Midian. But Godspeed is also a great one.
Cradle will never ever sound the same again... why?
Beacuse it's not the same people writing the music. I think the old lineup did it with passion! I'll try to explain...
Don't get me wrong, Paul is probably way better songwriter than the ones before him but hes lacks ALOT of the passion that the ex-members had. He write correct songs... one may be fast... one slow... one midtemp... good riffs but I dont feel with them as I did with the old albums.
But I think it's more to it... All the band members have aged and I think that they today doesn't live as much for the music as they used to. I can imagne the Cruelty lineup basing every single riffs on the stories of Elizabeth Bathory in their heads thinking how to make her passion and feelings transcript into music. Notice that I said EVERY member. They lived for the music. Nothing else matterd. Nowdays they all have familes and other things going on the side. I Just think they are way more down to earth.

It's like a great director. Ingemar Bergman, George Lucas, Stephen Spielberg, Peter Jacksson. When they direct they LIVE in the movie. It's like they are in the universe that the movie is about to take place. Thats how they know how every single detail should be described. They don't even think it. They just KNOW. And that the same with mucisians. When CoF wrote Dusk... and Her Embrace they just knew how it was going to sound beacuse they lived in that universe they created for themself. They din't think of how to describe details. Thats how the whole music felt much more alive, much more natural and MUCH more passionate. Nowdays they might think "Ah that crash didn't fit with that guitarbend" or something. Which is good, makes you write correct music but much more stereotypical and plastic.

I think CoF stopped living in the universe they had created around 2000. With major member changes comes new visions on how things should sound. We still got abit of the old in Midian probably written by Gian. But after his departure we've not seen anything of that.

Thats the hard thing. When making a movie one director can make every single decision. Plotting every single thing. In a band ALL the members have to be in the same place, the same time with the same vision for everything to transcript. Thats why it's so hard for bands to make it. You don't need to play very well or even have great songs. As soon as you got passion and a natural feel describing the estetic art of music. Then you got something going.

DaaD and Goodspeed are fantastic albums. Very nicely written and very well played. But they lack passion... Nymphetamine is the same but worse. Absint with faust and Gabrielle are both awesome tracks, somedays into my favourites. But no passion there either. Thornography didn't fall into my taste at all so I wont even talk about it.

Notice! this does not only happen to CoF... ALL bands will end up here someday. You can't keep on living in the same universe forever, either you get sic of it and lose the passion that way or you find a diffrent inspiration that makes you want to do other.

Goodspeed on the devils thunder, Isis blessings be with you.

'Cruelty and the Beast' was the last great album of COF, according to me. 'Midian' is very good, but after albums like 'The principle of evil made flesh', 'V Empire', 'Dusk... and her embrace' and 'Cruelty and the Beast', I don't think we can consider 'Midian' as one of the greatest album of COF.
Yeah... Stuart... Robin.. Gian

the best guitar/bass lineup ever
made the best music
looked the coolest
everything!

=/
at least bring BACK ONE
