A really good topic to discuss, and this forum really lacked it.
As for me, I prefer PC. Now playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat (I'm an addict of the series; by the way, in Russia there are many sci-fi books dedicated to this game, its world, etc). Sometimes I play CS Source (sometimes I appear at T44 servers or at Phoenixlans as Stalker Berestov, so if we meet once, let's say Hello instead of making headshots LOL), Left4Dead 2, Portal (it's magnificent!) and some other Valve games. I'm planning to buy Dawn of War 2. But the best game series of all times for me is Silent Hill. I walked through first 3 episodes, but SH 4 and homecoming brought me only disappointment... Anyway, Akira Yamaoka rulezzz!
But I remember time when I played PS1: I remember such masterpieces as TENCHU, Twisted Metal, Carmageddon (I do not mention NFS: never liked these games). Sometimes I play PSP, but for me the UMD are a bit too expensive...
"Haven't got Call of Pripyat, yet...I heard a lot about its features and advancements over the last two games in the series. Does it live up to expectations at all?" - Yes, in fact, I bought it soon after the official CIS release, and for several days after that I'd been lost for society :)
I should say that this third game accumulated all the best features of the first two episodes. First of all, it has a kind of true-to-life simulation of NPCs' activities: stalkers REALLY make sorties around the map, they check their killed teammates for bullets and medkits, they maraud, but unfortunately I nevr saw one searching for artifacts... There are enormous possibilities for freeplay; you really have to talk to people to get new objectives or info on your quest, and your actions really matter. There are only three locations there, but that's enough, because they're really big.
Besides, the graphics is on good level, even though the engine is the same. It looks much better than first two games, and the game itself runs faster. It demands less machine resources. but the bugs are the same as before... one day you enjoy the game, and the next day it gets down thrice an hour. But in any case, it's really worth playing.
By the way, how do you find "Clear Sky"? And when is it planned to make a European release of "the Call of Pripyat"?
Nice! What do you think about the last UT? Is it good for you? I think that the original Unreal Tournament is the best, and the UT 2004 is very close to it. I spent hours and hours playing with my friends on LAN, and the enjoyment lasts till now.
Speaking about Nintendo, I feel that its influence on Russia is not too serious: there were some fans of SNES (16 bit) (and I was one of them: Killer Instinct, Donkey Kong series, EWJ, Star Fox, etc), but sorry, now there are not too many people being fond of Nintendo condoles.
What are the news from Europe?
P.S. PC forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have both Playstation and Wii, but I almost play only on my PS3. My favorite games are RPG-games, like Baldurs Gate, Final Fantasy, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout and Dragon Age: Origins, and stealth games like Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell. At the moment I'm only playing Dragon Age, and I highly recommend it to all RPG/tactics lovers out there, it's really a masterpiece.
I really can't chose a favorite game, but my Top 5 list is:
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
- Metal Gear Solid (The whole series, can't choose just one)
- Final Fantasy X (Yes, I have played VII, but I liked X better)
- The Elder Scrolls III: Morrovind
- Baldurs Gate II
Abso-fucking-lutely agree with you, Brede Andre, Morrowind is one of the best RPS's I ever played. My wife is playing the Fallout series till now, and MGS is really cool! I only hope that some of the latest MGSs will be released for PCs... I have MGS 2: Substance (a PC edition) and walked it through twice... and I remember the time of the first MGS on PS1...
And FF7, of course. By the way, I found a PC version not long ago, but it doesn't work with Vista...
MGS2 Substance is a great version of MGS2, you get the whole game, plus some extra characters and other cool stuff. And the history in the game... Man that fucked with my head, it's really deep and all philosophical, probably the best story in a video game ever.
I remember my first time playing MGS on PS1 as well... Aah, I'm getting all nostalgic here:P
I do have a PC version of FFVII, but it only work on windows 98 :/ Luckily the game was released on PSN a while ago, so I bought it there =)
By the way, is there anybody playing on-line shooters like CS: Source or L4D2? What servers? Lets meet and shoot some MEAT! :) You can recognize me by login StalkerBerestov, e.g. at Phoenixlans for CSS...
I fucking hate rpg's,, they fucking suck and took my buddies life, lol,, I love my ps3 though,, just bought the new tekken,, its pretty cool but nothing beats gta4,, in my eyes,, kill zone 2 is another one Im hooked on, trying to beat certain missions on elite,, fun but fucking hard
