Not only number of times, but give us some examples!
I've had to do it many times... and I usually win because what people don't realize is that most of us are a tad bit smarter than the average bear....

So, let's hear your stories!!!

recently... almost every goddamn day.
I've got to prove this same damn point to people almost like everyday.. coz this area i live in has some serious shit going on.. there are guys that listen to both metal and hip-hop... i just dont know what they are trying to show.. there are these guys that have got COF as well as Backstreet Boys on their playlist.. It's like they don't know what Metal music is all about.. I sometimes get into serious arguments to tell them how they have got to respect metal music.. and in the end i've almost succeeded...
People are crazy.............
You know what's weird? When I was in high school, there was this foreign exchange student who was like the quiet, most reserved, conservative chic at the school, but all she listened to was death metal. That's pretty much me in a nutshell. I'm not conservative though.....but I'm quiet and people are usually shocked that I love metal. I've had the usual......it's "devil" music....and how can you listen to that. I really don't know what to say to them.....because I'm thinking, How can they listen to that shit they listen to?
I occasionally get someone say "that isn't music, it's just noise". I usually point to something printed nearby and say "that isn't language, it's just shapes". If possible, I point to something that isn't in English, which is reasonably easy in my area (we have a great many Asians around here, so Japanese, Chinese, or Korean is frequently visible wherever you are).

Most people get the point immediately. All music is noise. The difference is purely in what you understand as music. Cradle doesn't strike you as music because you don't understand their musical language, which is a flaw with you and not them.
Kinda me in a "nutshell" too......the quiet girl, whom most would be surprised at her intrests........

I'll start it off....
This isn't a fight, but it's funny as shit

So this one kid was like "OMG, I love Pantera!"
So me, thinking 'awesome, let's talk metal' asked what his favorite song was.
He said... "The Beautiful People"
All I could do was laugh until I almost started crying
*God, I hate stupid people*
He got all pissed, and was like "WTF is your problem??"
I asked him to quote some of the lyrics
By this time, my friends had gathered to laugh at the idiot as he recited Manson lyrics thinking it was a Pantera song...
One of my friends had his guitar (because we have nothing better to do at my school during lunch) and started to play
The kid was like "Yah, that's it!"
So, needless to say, we all started laughing more
To this day, I don't think he knows that he accually likes Manson and not Pantera, even though in a report he wrote about how bad of an influence Manson's music is

Kay, now let's keep it going with more funny arguments and stupid people!!!

I think we should educate the younger crowd. Music is starting to become a dying art, which is sad. and a perfect example of this is emo/hardcore music. I was youtubing out of complete boredom and happened to stumble upon an emo/hardcore moshing pit. It was pretty sad. I don't know if anyone has ever seen such a sight, but it looks like something out of a circus act. Flying kicks and wild arm punches {{I guess best imitation of a windmill and you get a free shirt from the band?}} So instead of poking fun at someone who probably had a brain tumor for breakfast, teach them the difference between Pantera and Marilyn Manson before they confuse the two and think they are both Emoriffic.
to be honest, i don't know why it really bothers many of you so much... personally i care about only those people's opinions... who are dear to me... or whom i trust... or smth like that... i don't give a shit about so-called "public opinion"... well, at least i really try... ;)
In my country there is problem ...
Not often, can't think of any situation tbh. There must've been but haven't really thought about them much.
Oh fuck I just googled them, WTF, I thought Emo bands were bad!!!!

Never really had problems when I was at school in the late 80's as metal and glam rock ruled the roost, Poison, Cue, Ratt, LA Guns, GnR and Maiden were all that was played at parties, Rap didnt exist, I went to an all white school. Rave, dance and grunge hadn't happened yet.

I get more crap from people now in my early 30's than as a teenager. "Oh haven't you grown out of that shit yet"" Aren't you a bit too old for metal" etc etc. I work in a large corporate office and because I wear nothing but black suits and add a zipped hoodie in the winter I must obviously be a satanist. I don't play that down due to all the asians and Christian nuts that my company seems to attract, the fact I make them uneasy as there not too bright pleases me. That way they leave me alone.
